Fescue mowing

Each Spring we knock down all the fescue areas to generate growth for the rest of the year. Although the appearance is short now, it will eventually grow and hopefully produce seed heads that move with the wind. All the fescue was fertilized last week!

Fairway divots

We sent a group of workers out yesterday to fill fairway divots. We will complete all fairways by the end of the week!

Week in Review

Spring has definitely come early this year and our season is underway.  Aside from the projects it has been a busy week in your Golf Course Maintenance Department.  The following depicts our progress this week,

Mulching around the Clubhouse Grounds

Mowing fairways two times this week...this is four weeks ahead of schedule

We added some new fescue sod to the tee on #6
We added some fescue sod to the new bunker and on the far bunker

We pushed out the right hand side of #6 fairway to accommodate the new bunker.  There are still 30 yards of fairway on this hole as prior to the additional bunker

We used Bermuda sod from the #6 tee project to tighten up this bunker edge

The greens are back in full working order from aerification

We feel fortunate the Club has granted resources to replace four new utility carts for this season.  The cart you see in this picture was acquired from another golf course and has minimal hours.  Thank you to the Board and Members!!

We added some fescue sod to the right of #8 tee.  Little projects like this are viewed kindly with our Regulatory Agencies.  We took an area of maintained turf and turned it into an area that will filter water before it hits the Chesapeake Bay.  This is just one example of the Club's Environmental Stewardship!

We trimmed back the Lovegrass on holes #6,#8 and #11

What a great time to be at the PrincessAnne...Come out and enjoy your course!!

"You just got the greens really good and now you're punching holes.....Why?"

I'll keep it simple....it allows the plant to gain oxygen, it relieves thatch and allows the plant to produce roots for the long summer months ahead.   I know.......it's a messy process, but a necessary evil for the future health of our greens.  Thank you for your patience through this process.

For those of you who want an indepth look into our routine, the following pictures depict today's work.......

The aerifier brings up the plugs which are pushed and hauled away by hand to limit exterior contamination
Remaining debris is blow into a pile and collected
A look at the green before the sand
Sand is applied
Sand is brushed in....
The green is rolled twice

#13 cart path polymer

The polymer on #13 cart path is currently being removed. The color was an issue with the Greens Committee and Membership, so the decision was made to chalk it up to experimentation and remove the polymer. We appreciate everyone's patience and willingness to try something new.
