Winter weeds

The warm winter has allowed a few weeds to penetrate our fall Pre-emergent application. The left side of the 8th fairway is one of warmest areas of the golf course due to increased sun light. Today we spot sprayed the entire golf course with products that will take care of Poa Annua and winter broadleaf weeds. The first picture is an example of the weeds and the second picture is Gary applying the herbicides.

Bunker Update

Today is the final day of Tim Liddy and Dave Axland forming the new bunkers on #6 and #8 fairway.  From here, your Golf Course Maintenance Team will add the necessary drainage, prepare the area for sod and install the sand.  The following pictures were taken this morning.

New Bunkers!

Anyone who played today probably noticedsomething different on #6 and #8 fairway.  Those bare areas will be the site of new bunkers.  The following is a synopsis sent to the Greens Committee in accordance with  Mr. Liddy's overall vision for the golf course.

"#6 – With a short Par five, I envision another bunker on the left side of the fairway to protect the best approach angle into the green. Coming into the green from the left is much easier, so I am protecting par by forcing the golfer to go right, where access is much harder. The second shot will either be to a small lay-up area or going for the green in two, where the golfer will have to negotiate a large tree, bunkers and a green complex not forgiving of errant long iron shots.

#8 – Another Par five that the golfer will have to adjust the second shot away from a new fairway bunker on the right. The current hole is played to a wide open second shot that has limited penalty or strategy. I envision a bunker that forces the player to either clear the hazard and lie closer to the green in two or lay-up for a longer third shot into the green.

During my trip I will walk the property with Superintendent Matt Boyce and look at the current bunkers to see if there are ways to improve the playability or accessibility while I am on-site at the Princess Anne."

The projected timeline will call for construction this week....drainage, new sod and sand to come next week.
